A Singaporean In KL
I'm writing this entry from Toon's apartment in Kuala Lumpur. Toon, Seow Wei (Toon's girlfriend) and I just got back from dinner with our friend Richard. We drove all the way to Klang to have seafood at Telok Gong. The food was fantastic. It was nice seeing Richard again since I last met him before I moved back to Singapore about a year and a half ago. Turns out that he's gonna be returning to New Zealand in two months' time.
Toon proudly told me that he got his first invitation to a gay wedding in South Africa. We started talking about gay marriage, civil unions, wedding rituals.
Then we got into this whole conversation about gay saunas in Singapore and Seow Wei started to wonder why there aren't saunas for heterosexuals where people could just meet up for sex. We never got a conclusion. Maybe those places do exist.
Although the food was good and the company was great, what really made my day was a brief 10 minutes MSN chat with YF right before I had to leave for dinner. It was the most open and honest conversation we had since we started seeing each other. That ten minutes drew us a lot closer than all those time we spent before that. It just shows one thing - any interaction between two people, where either one person, or both persons, are inauthentic is a complete waste of time. So for goodness' sake, I need to stop being a pussy and wasting time.

A Russian In Singapore
Eugene was in town yesterday. He stopped over in Singapore on his way back to St. Petersburg. I met him after I had breakfast with YF. The last time I saw him was perhaps a year ago and it's nice to be talking about life and the universe with him again.
We were talking about Aiesec U.S. 50th Anniversary alumni gathering that's happening in New York end October. Both of us are not gonna be there. So many of our friends are now living in NYC - Anu, Joe, Sapna, Scott, Dave, Rickesh...
We ended up talking about peaches and coconuts. I was commenting that Americans seem to enjoy and feel more comfortable interacting in a big group. And he likened Americans to peaches - soft outside, hard inside, and Asians to coconuts - hard outside, soft inside. For a moment, I thought he's gonna say Asians are hard outside, hollow inside. Then I would have punched him :-)
We met up with Jessica, Cecilia, Elvin and Pavel for dinner at a japanese restaurant in The Esplanade. Here's a picture of one Taiwanese, one Hongkie, one Malaysian, one local and two Russians.

An Emotionally Fruitful Week
A helluva week that began last Saturday. I meant it in a good way - an extremely emotionally fruitful week.
Resumed tennis with Sean after a one-month break. My ankle's recovering but it's still weak. I had to wear three layers of ankle guard. Good thing is...I finally got my single backhand right. After tennis I was off to Wanping's place for dinner with her and Chin Nam. She thought I looked so gay in my white Energie shirt with my checkered Country Road shorts. Well, wait till she sees me in my turquoise "Sex Simbol" tshirt with my Roberto Cavalli jeans. Anyway time spent with her is always quality time. After dinner, I was off to the condo just across the street for a "Christmas In July" party. Just another excuse conjured up by furiners to get wasted. That was no fun. Francis, Roger, ZY and I were feeling anti-social and just cuddled up in one corner talking crap. We could have done this somewhere else.
Spent considerable time this week with someone I met at a party organized by Francis during Chinese New Year. It's incredible that we got along so quickly even though it's been about six months since we last met. Dim sum, botanical garden, dinner on Sunday. Musical on Wednesday. Villa Bali, Mount Faber on Thursday.
Today, Maggie and Fuiting brought my cute nephews over and we watched Bridget Jones Diary together. It feels really good seeing my sisters singing some fish-swimming-in-the-water song together with their 1-year old babies. I'm going to get back my Love Actually dvd from Wanping so that we can all watch it the next time they come over.
And I still had my weekly chit chat over kopi with See Mian and mahjong with Alan and Lay Tin.
I feel really blessed to be surrounded by so many wonderful people. And I need to remind myself not to take them for granted...which I often do.

My Volleyball Buddies
Got second place in this year's Volleyball Spike that just ended about two weeks ago. We came in as underdogs and fought really really hard to be the first runner-up.
Here's a team photo. Lee...more cuties for you to look at.

Little Ping In Pink

Here's a picture of 4-hour old cutey Little Ping in her mummy's favourite pink. Her name is Xu Yu-En. Very girly. Most probably will grow up to be another bo liao Hello Kitty fan like mummy.

Evgeny Is Now A Father
It's raining babies in April. Ming Hsien just gave birth. So did Wanping. And Lena just gave birth to little Vadim too. So Eugene's now a father.
Here's a photo of his happy family.

By the way, if you've lost touch with Eugene, you can write to me for his email. He's now based in St. Petersburg as the general manager of UFT, a company that creates and sells content (think games, ringtones, animations etc.) to cellular operators and mobile portals.

Little Ping Has Arrived
Wanping just gave birth to a baby girl on April 7, 2006. Both baby and mummy are fine. Baby is very cute. Wanping was surprised I spent more than 10 minutes looking at the baby. Will post cute cute baby pictures soon.

LBS vs INSEAD; London vs Paris
Last June when I spoke to Amit over Skype, he insisted that I visit him in Brussels where he's working with DHL. Just heard from him over MSN that he'll be moving again in August this year to either London or Paris to begin his MBA.
That lucky bastard is having a tough time choosing between London Business School and INSEAD. I told him I'd pick INSEAD over London Business School and Paris over London. 3 years ago, I was seriously thinking of doing my MBA and I went through the same thought process. My business school of choice at that time was IESE in Barcelona.
Another option is to be admitted to INSEAD Singapore which I think will be a foolish option. (Actually I just don't really want him to be living in Singapore and irritating the shit out of me)
By the way, he told me he watched Brokeback Mountain yesterday and loved it. According to him, he "was very moved and touched". I just think he's turning gay.
Hey randi! chutia! I know how much the admission meant to you so I'm really happy for you. Cheers, Cheongy

Drew on Yahoo! 360°
For those of you who know Drew, check out his blog on Yahoo! 360°. Apparently he's trying to integrate his Yahoo! 360° with his 43Things, with his Flickr, and his del.icio.us accounts. All these social networking sites that utilize tagging.
He currently describes his blog as a "mash-up site". But if you care about him as much as I do, you won't mind the little hassle of navigating through his user-unfriendly site. Simone is getting prettier. Luan has grown up and looks like a rock star now. Noah, his younger son, err...has really curly hair. Takes after his dad.

From Swiss Chocolates To French Cognac
I was driving when Anthony called from Switzerland to wish me happy new year towards the end of December 2005. It was such a pleasant surprise because the last time we met was in London in November 2002. He's such a busy man and his little gesture meant a lot to me.
We actually only met each other twice. First time was in Goodwill Park hotel and the meeting was brief. Second time was in London where we had meetings over a couple of days. Even though we didn't end up working with each other, we really hit it off well.
I still remembered him telling me he went to Japan looking for electronic manufacturers more than 30 years ago and how the Japanese thought he was from Swaziland instead of Switzerland. And this year Roadstar, the company he founded, is celebrating its 30th anniversary.
First time we met, he bought me chocolates from Switzerland. Today we met at same old Goodwood Park hotel. This time round, he bought me Remy Martin VSOP. He must really think I've aged a lot over the past 3 years.
Over coffee, we filled each other in on what we've been up to. He's been very busy with his new commitments with Grundig. He's still traveling a lot within Europe and Asia. And he still manages to put on weight.
He mentioned he wanted to explore the possibility of a business collaboration and said that he'll get back to me with the details. Frankly it'll be something I really look forward to...I mean the chance to work with him. It's been a long time since I had a mentor and he'll make a great mentor. I've learnt so much from Dianna and I'm sure I'll learn a great deal from Anthony. But it's not even that. Just chatting with him gives me a lot of positive energies and mental strength. Hopefully things work out this time round. We shall see...

Quzy's Blog
For the past four years, on December 31, I'll write a summary of the year in my leather-bound journal. And part of the summary includes noting down who are the new people whom I met during the year who I think will be/are significant in my life. Last year, there were six - Adelle, Toon, Ben Scott, Gary, Warren and Adrick.
Adelle made me brush my teeth three times a day. Warren taught me not to waste my skincare products by cutting the plastic tube when it's near finished.
Damn...this entry's supposed to be about Zhongyi's blog and I just went off a tangent. Well, ZY's a new-found friend whom I hit off really well, really quickly.
I'm naturally attracted to people with stark contradictions because they remind the people around them to refrain from categorizing others. And that's what I find most attractive about him.
His blog name is quiescente queste. Apparently it meant motionless and passive in French. I think he's talking about his preferred position.

Alicia's Chinese Name
Just got off the phone with Alicia. She'll be in Beijing in two weeks' time as part of her MBA program with Pepperdine University. I've been such a lousy friend. She sent me a couple of emails over the past few months and I never responded to any of her emails because I was always thinking I would just call her the next day. Of course that never happened.
In her last email, she wanted me to give her a Chinese name so that she can use it during her stay in China. Well, that was three weeks ago and since she never heard from me, she got another Chinese friend to help her. Her friend suggested 舞鲜艳 (Wu Xianyan), 鲜艳 being her first name and 舞 being her last name. I hated it!
Sorry to say this, Alicia, but it sounded like a dance hostess' name. Yes, yes...I know...I could have replied to your email more promptly and helped you with a name instead of giving such unconstructive comments.
So I'm suggesting 艾丽思. The hanyu pinyin is Ai Lisi.

艾丽思 is the Chinese equivalent of Alice. And since you're so anal about having a first name and a last name, at least 艾 is a legitimate Chinese surname, rather than 舞 (what was your friend thinking?!).
I'm thinking 丽 because you're beautiful and 思 because you're very introspective. I think it'll leave a positive first impression on your new Chinese friends. At least it'll make them believe that you're not another white American bimbo with big boobs.
Pick mine! Pick mine!
By the way, Kate Larsen and James Gardner are in Beijing too. Maybe you all can catch up.

Dody In Cairo
Just chatted with Dody on MSN. It must have been about 3 years since we last spoke. It's rather coincidental that he beeped me a few days after I wrote the journal entry I Luv NYC because I don't think he knows I maintain a blog. Though I didn't write "I miss my cool Indonesian housemate" in that entry, I do think of Dody from time to time.
Anyway he messaged me because he's now in Cairo, setting up their 14-man Silverkey office. He'll be there till September this year, so he said I should visit Egypt while he's there. Free accommodation. Hmm...tempting. Of course he added that there are many hot guys in Cairo and they're all in great shape because they got nothing better to do than to work out all day. Even more tempting!
It's nice to know that I've so many straight friends who are making sure that I'm getting laid. I remembered once, I was having dinner with See Mian at Sakae Sushi in Wheelock Place and he spotted two cuties from where he's seated. He insisted that we changed seats so that I'll get the better view. Such good friends are hard to cum by.
You can read all about Dody's adventures on his blog. His company is as cool as he is, so make sure you check out Silverkey too.

Eating Cock or Kok Yee Ting?
Okay I'm sick and tired of people asking me who's this "Lee" friend of mine for she's the most prolific commenter on my blog (go Lee!). I'm sick of people accusing me of being so rude as to address my friend by her surname.
Well her full name is Lee Yee Ting. When she was young, she didn't like it when her childish, immature classmates called her Yee Ting, Eating, Eating...
And it gets worse now that she's grown up to be this gorgeous, sexy woman with ruby red lips. She's happily married to her hubby, Joe Kok. So now she's Mrs Cock Eating...er...I mean Mrs Kok Yee Ting.
Lee...I'm just so glad you're mixing with better company now.
p.s. If I'm found dead, you know she killed me.

Karaoke With A Mission
Wedding bells are ringing in October. Sean and Weiling will be tying the knot on October 15, 2005 at the Shangri-La Rasa Sentosa Resort.
Sean's planning to do something really sweet, that is, to sing a love song to Weiling on the wedding. So off we went to Party World KTV at Crown Prince Hotel. The mission? Find an appropriate song he can sing without getting out of tune, and sing it 30 friggin times.
Initially it did prove to be a challenge...

Fortunately we managed to overcome the initial hiccups. Next week will be Round Two.
